Description

Another one of these. I got kind of doubtful about the composition and this whole thing halfway through, but pushed on to finish it anyway. I wanted to depict this little "alcove" as a comforting reprieve for lost travellers before they continued on their way.

The statues are of Ksitigarbha, who is a bodhisattva / Buddhist deity. In Japan, he is known as Jizou, and is revered and loved as the guardian of children, aborted/miscarried foetuses, lost souls, and travellers.
